Participatory Approaches to the Ethics of Emerging Technologies for Children

IDC 2023 Workshop, June 19, 2023, Chicago, Illinois, USA

The primary goal of this full-day workshop is to bring together researchers and stakeholders interested in the use of participatory approaches to consider ethical issues surrounding emerging technologies for children. The workshop will be an opportunity to discuss potential use of participatory methods and processes, issues related to specific emerging technologies (e.g., extended reality), as well as experiences in previous and current projects. All participants will have an opportunity to present their work and ideas. From these presentations, we will select emerging themes to discuss.

The workshop will also be an opportunity to begin creating a community around this topic. There are specific challenges to this line of research that could significantly benefit from collaboration and coordination across multiple research sites. The workshop will therefore be an opportunity to discuss research collaborations.

Position statements should be in ACM Standard Template, must not exceed three pages, should be submitted as a PDF file to EasyChair and should answer the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to participate?
  2. What can you contribute?
  3. What do you want to get out of the workshop?
At least one author of each accepted position statement must attend the workshop and all participants must register for the workshop and the conference.
