Elections in the United States

The Federal Role

 

Role of National Government:

    Set "voluntary" standards for voting systems.

    Protect the right to vote with civil rights laws.

    Enforce the equal protection clause of the constitution.

    Protect special voting rights of military personnel.

 

Technically, there are no national elections

    Each of 50 states (and 4 territories) is independent!
