Course Outline

Inside desktop computers, laptops, iPods, cell phones, games, robots, automobiles, and many household appliances, there are processors. How does a basic processor work? How does it communicate with users or with the outside world to make things happen? How does a computer do simple math? How is music stored? How can a processor make a decision or make a choice? How do objects move on a screen? What are the roles of hardware and software? This course will help take a first look at some of these basic issues using a query-based approach

Tests and assignments

There is no test. Students will be expected to attend classes, and participate in discussions. Each student will choose a topic for research, write a report, and make a short presentation. Final letter grades (A-F) will be based on the report, class attendance, class participation, and the presentation.
